Bandelier National Monument is one of New Mexico's greatest treasures. Situated in a colorful, narrow canyon near Los Alamos, New Mexico, where early Native Americans (Puebloans) carved away at the soft volcanic ash that lines the walls of the canyon to build their dwellings. The drive to Bandelier is a treat in itself, with its winding road that passes over and through a maze of mesas and canyons. Located just 45 minutes from Santa Fe, you'll want to be sure and include a visit to Bandelier while in the Santa Fe area.

The photographs in this photo tour were taken in late June of 2006. They highlight the natural beauty and historical significance of Bandelier National Monument. Related links for Bandelier and the Los Alamos area are listed near the bottom of this page.
